The Finnish Civil War reached Noormarkku in January 1918, and the effects of the war were felt for a very long time. Even though the output of Ahlström’s paper mills fell in the years of the Winter and Continuation Wars (1939–1944), the production of military equipment increased significantly. During the war years, members of the Ahlström family were scattered: men serving the country, women serving as members of Lotta Svärd, and children sent to Sweden as “war children”. But we got through it all.
